Pets Are Important Too

Reasons To Choose Cremation For Your Pet

by Aurore Fontai

When your pet dies, you do have to make a decision as to what to do with their remains. Some people do bury their pets, but if you are looking for an alternative, you may want to consider having your pet cremated. Here are a few reasons why people sometimes cremate their pets, and why you might want to do the same.

You can keep the remains in a readily accessible place.

If you do not have land where you can bury your pet, you may struggle to find them a proper resting spot that you'll be able to visit often. Cremation makes this easier. You can keep your pet's remains in an urn or container which you store inside your home. You can put it on a shelf, on your desk, or even in the back of a closet to pull out when desired. Either way, your pet's remains will always be accessible to you when you want to mourn or remember them.

You can split the remains among multiple people.

The luckiest pets are those who have multiple people who love them equally. Of course, when such pets die, those people may not always agree as to who gets to keep their remains. If you choose cremation for your pet, this will not be such a major concern since all of the people who loved the pet can split and share the ashes. This makes cremation a popular choice for "childhood pets." If you and your siblings have grown up and moved out, you can all take some of the ashes from your childhood pet with you to your separate homes.

You can scatter the ashes if desired.

Maybe you don't want to hold onto your pet's ashes forever and instead want them to be placed somewhere that was meaningful to your pet, or even to you. If you have your pet cremated, you can scatter their ashes in that meaningful place, even if burying them there would not be appropriate. For example, you could scatter the ashes along a trail you used to walk together or a beach you used to play on together. Just check to make sure it's legal to scatter ashes in a specific location before doing so.

For many pet owners, cremation is the ideal way to dispose of remains. Talk to a pet cremation service to learn more, and perhaps also to get a quote.
